Dum dah dum dum: Black Friday

It's Black Friday, meaning that in the States, everyone is going a little sale-crazy today. Being in the UK, means I can't indulge (not that I normally would, crowds of bargain shoppers scare me); rather, I get to remain in the safety of my apartment and have a cup of tea whilst I online-window-shop the sales -- especially the sale going on at Built by Wendy. Oh my goodness, so, many wondrous things to wish for. I NEED a pair of lederhosen...doesn't everyone?

Oh, and by the way...

Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow American compatriots. Turkey, potatoes and pie, oh my!

Paint it Black

It's winter, it's cold, but I cannot be buying a flurry of new layers to wrap my body I grabbed my favorite maxi dress from the summer and threw on a fuzzy sweater, a hat and some boots. With such seasonal recycling, I feel less guilt about owning so many summer dresses and more importantly...warmth at last!

snug as a bug in a rug

I've decided that in order to stay warm this winter it is imperative that I get my hands on this:

...and this....
and especially this!:

Though seeing as I have no money and need to buy Christmas presents for others instead of myself, maybe I will try to learn how to knit this, and sew a velvet sailor dress. A girl can have goals!

Wish list no. 4: Street Inspired

Blah, an artic front blew in yesterday. Heat way up, sociability way down. So with that forlorn winter attitude in mind, I've spent my weekend staring enviously at the fashionable around the globe to envisage what I would want if I could dress however I pleased.

I want...

To swathe myself in voluminous clothing without looking like I am wearing a sheet, or a muumuu, which inevitably always happens.
To look, unabashedly, like rock'n'roll.
To wear something faux furry. I've been on the hunt, but I don't seem to carry it well. I think because of my stature, I've been having trouble with the sizing and tend to look like a mini-gorilla.
To continue to wear plaid when everyone else is sick of it.
An oversized blazer that fits perfectly.
Chunky boots that are not doc martens. And, the discipline to dress monochromatically on occasion.
To wear a big furry hat with panache. Again, been on the search, but I apparently have a big head.

And those are my sunday dreams....kind of whiny, but I have to wear a scarf and hat inside while reading 100 pgs of legal philosophy and that is bound to make anyone a tinsy bit cranky.

the road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom

I've always had a certain fascination with Oscar Wilde, his life, his writings and his philosophy. Admist the malaise of the fin de siècle, he promoted ideals of Aestheticism and Decadence, that art existed for art's sake (without moral or social presumption) and that life itself was a work of art. He dressed luxuriously, always with a green carnation on his lapel and a witticism on his lips.

Although I wish I could live a life of decadence, I am but a poor student, and other things, like eating, take priority. But, layering luxurious fabrics that are shiny, sheer, gold and velvet mixed with ring-heavy fingers let me pretend that I am anything but...

When I wear them all at once, I feel a bit like a magpie and I kinda like it.

The Daydreaming Procrastinator

Like always, I have a paper due on friday about something or other, but I much prefer to look at pretty pictures and imagine a dreamland far away from textbooks and responsibility. Where sleep is always restful, play is mandatory and there is a chocolate river...

after all, you're my wonderwall

I've always wanted some sort of crazy wallpaper...but have never lived anywhere where I would be allowed to experiment. Were I to find such a place to call my own, I might have to use this heat-reactive paint wall-paper. Oh how it warms my heart...

Meatballs & Polar Bears

It's my reading week (fall break), meaning I should be reading and writing up a storm. Rather, I decided that it was imperative that I reorganize my closet (sort of) and had to get to Ikea to buy a) a clothing rack, b) my new favorite lamp, the LJUSÅS SALBO and c) the warmest blanket that will not leave my side this winter. (oh and tea light candles).

It was a Scandinavian day to say the least... not only because of the delish Swedish meatballs and diy furniture but also...

Although I returned that Peter Jensen fox sweater, I managed to find a more suitable replacement, at a (slightly) more affordable price tag from the Danish designer. I have been wearing this sweater for like 4 days in a row. While the fox sweater holds a special place in my heart, I knew deep down that it fit me funny and was slightly off, and was an unwise (i.e. "daniela, you could not afford it why did you buy it") purchase...but now my mild depression over the lack of an animal-sweater has been tempered. It shall be an heirloom. So I declare it, so it shall be.

I heart you Scandinavia for yummy food, assemble-able furniture and cozy knits. (And so much more...)

Wish list (no. 3)

Things that I want that are not clothes:

Log pillows, handmade by Norwegian Wood

Erica Weiner "Solitaire" Ring for my middle finger - funny back story here

Angel Cup - how I love those Scandinavian designers and their designs.
Frames of all shapes and sizes, new and antique, above my bed
(photo via the selby)
Vintage Silhouette Picture/Postcard to be framed and part of the wall of frames
(I'm searching ebay!)

Amusing coffee table books to waste away the days.

I can just imagine, turning the page with my solitaire ringed finger, while sipping coffee out of my angel mug, leaning on my log pillows, under my be-framed wall (that includes a silhouette). Wouldn't it be loverly?
