Overalls, y'all

I still have a pair of overalls from 8th grade hanging up in my closet it at home. While I've long since relegated them to childhood memories, this girl has brought overalls back to the forefront of my mind. I mean, how did she manage to make them look so stylish? I will just have to be content to admire her bravado though, as I know full well overalls could never work on my 5'2" frame, unless my goal is to look 5 years old.

sometimes Bullets are all that will do

This outfit incorporates all of my favorite things at the moment, to be told in bullet form to avoid run-on sentences (I'm feeling a bit long-winded today, and apologize in advance):
  • My white rabbit brooch: nicknamed so because it reminds of the White Rabbit, who constantly has to check the time, and while my boyfriend has his signature pocket watch, I have my brooch.
  • My new secondhand striped dress: my newest etsy purchase acquired from one of the loveliest sellers out there, Harbour District Vintage
  • My secondhand Laredos that have been patiently waiting in a box back in Massachusetts since I bought them in February off of eBay for $10. It took me a while to convince my mother to send heavy boots all the way to London (something the seller would not do) but she caved and even threw in a whole ziploc bag of Splenda (my white stuff). I've been wearing them nonstop since getting them last week. (ps. I have to thank one of my favorite bloggers, Ringo, for posting on her own search for Justin Roper boots a bit ago...I only had an idea of what I wanted but didn't know any brands to search for, and had been constantly searching for "toe-fringe boots", which didn't end up too well. A week after her post, I found my boots! Although I didn't end up with Justins, I am very happy with my find)
  • Last but not least, my floppy hat! Something that I wear constantly inside, a little too afraid to wear outside, but venture outside I did (if only for a moment, the wind, made it impossible to wear).
Phew! That was quite the outfit round-up! A little exhausting (and exhaustive) but there you go...

Where the Wild Things Are

Ok, so I'm intrigued...I've been wondering how they would make a story out of an extended wild rumpus but looks like they did, and it looks kinda amazing. This was my second favorite book as a kid, the first being "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs." They should make a movie out of that! In stop motion! That would be AMAZING!! I always wished I lived in the tiny town of Chewandswallow. Oh for a melted butter sun (or was it a jello sun?) and mashed potatoes mountains.

Rachel Comey Easy Tank

Guyyssss! This tank top by Rachel Comey, suitably named the Easy Tank, is the perfect top for summer, don't you think? The color (ahem, chartreuse) the buttons, the silky drapey-ness! The price is less than perfect; however, but at least it's given me an ideal to hunt for. Lemon drop tops, yes please!

Prints

I love etsy. Normally I use it to find vintage clothing, but recently I have been scouring people's pages looking at all the amazing prints that are available. There are so many talented artists out there, and it's nice that they have a platform to show and sell their work that is so accessible. I'm thinking I need some more wall-hangings for my apartment, and these are the prints/artists currently on my mind (in no particular order):

the west coast has the sunshine

So the weather forecast is all doom and gloom for next week: rain & cold. boo. So while I hope that the meteorologist made a mistake, as meteorologist are wont to do, I will distract myself with warm editorials like this one from the March issue of the Italian mag, Velvet. It's all sun, beach, lounging, fabulous clothes, fabulous cheek bones but with a light hint of anomie...

Sarah Silverman: It's a Boy [by Band of Outsiders]

Man, oh, man do I love Boy by Band of Outsiders. Scott Sternberg is a little bit of a genius (and a recent CFDA menswear nominee, mind you). Girls love to wear boys clothing. He makes boy's clothing. He also makes boy's clothing for girls. He has that preppy intellectual look down pat and is a clever little marketer. Last fall, it was hazy polaroids of Michelle Williams wandering around a house all Boy'd up, then there was a series shots of Kirsten Dunst posing for the spring 09 presentation video and last month was his recent Godard-inspired fall 09 presentation, which I am in love with. And now, to show another side of the spring clothes that Kirsten modelled, he's come up with a new set of hazy polaroids with Sarah Silverman being her usual self in a "super Jewy" deli in L.A. As for his choice of model, Sternberg told The Moment, "It’s less about the content and delivery and more about her singularity and honesty. Plus she’s totally hot. And hilarious." True true true.

See the Gal shine in Boy.

wish list (no. 6): if Spring has indeed Sprung

As the layers come off, I've been thinking about my spring wardrobe. Not that I invest in a new wardrobe every season, but I imagine recycling things in my closet this season that rotate around keeping it simple & fresh, with a hint of daintyness and that slightly askew-ness that seems to follow me.

I present stripes and flowers (nothing new but nautical stripes will follow me my entire life I hope), bellbottom jeans, loose camisoles tucked into shorts, contrasted with men's shirts, sleeves rolled and continuing with the 70s flavor of stacked wooden heels.

New Old Gadgets

I've been having a streak of good luck on eBay recently. I finally found an old toy camera, bought some 120 film but now I am afraid to even try to load it. What if I break it?! So for now, it is sitting pretty on my mantle.

The other gadget...my glorious Imperial typewriter from the 60s is getting plenty of use. I love the clickty-clackty sound it makes. And for only £2, it was a steal. I am a bit terrible at typing and going to have to invest in some whiteout...but still, prreettty.

Flowers & Pineapple

This was sitting on my kitchen table today and I had the urge to snap it. I bought a pineapple recently in celebration of the sunny weather we've been having. Now time to chop it.

Hi guys!

It's been awhile since I've done any outfit posts. Mostly because I have a tendency to wake up and dash to class without a thought about it, but today was a lazy Saturday spent at a cafe, studying and salivating over the banana bread on offer...so an outfit shot could easily be squeezed in to the hectic schedule. Nothing special, but this is my 'potato sack' dress that I kind of love despite the nickname. Sometimes all a girl wants is a nice little smock. I bought it with plans of wearing it during the summer, if and when, a tan sets in and it is less the color of my skin...but I just couldn't wait.

Spring at Le Petit Trianon

It was Spring today. It must have been! I felt it in my bones. I felt it in the slight breeze and shining light of the normally shy English sun. Ok, well, it may still be a little too nippy for Spring, but it's a sign, right? It's just around the corner, waiting to be asked to come out and play...

Yesterday, however, I was feeling very un-spring like as I had my first real migraine and thus spent the day cooped up with the blinds shutting away the wretched [for my head] sun, watching & napping through some of my favorite films. I watched Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette and was particularly enamored this time around with the scenes depicting Marie Anoinette's idyllic time at Le Petit Trianon. The soundtrack: tweeting of birds and the rustle of leaves, the costumes: white dresses and rosy cheeks and the background: sun, flowers, Spring pure and simple. It made me, despite my couch-ridden state, dream of days to come that I imagine will be spent frolicking in white dresses.

Psst. You can click to enlarge.

my eyes are tired

I'm just pooped. This past month has been filled with deadlines, sore throats, stuffy noses, runny noses and more due dates. and exam period hasn't even started! anyway, this is just to say -- i haven't been around much, and may not be for a little while, but i hope to come back to this little space and start saying things again so it ain't just photos I fancy. Deal? Deal.
