Chloe Sevigny x Opening Ceremony Part Deux

Second round of collaborations between Chloe Sevigny and Opening Ceremony have resulted in this Fall unisex collection. Menswear, but with scaled down sizing for women apparently. Of course, my favorite thing about Chloe's collab, is Chloe herself. Amazingly as always.

5 Favorites- New York Fashion Week

Ok, so I am slightly behind, but here were my five favorites from New York Fashion Week. They all have the same elements that I am always drawn to, despite the current trends: layering, mixing prints and that "geek-chic" (I wish there were a better term for that...) look.

1) Boy by Band of Outsiders presentation: Inspired by the French students/revolutionaries in Godard's La Chinoise, nuff said

2) Marc by Marc Jacobs: I'm not sure why this got mixed reviews, I thought it was cozy with its layered look and hiking-chic aesthetic. I especially loved some of the men's looks of layered plaids and tweeds. Just say no to furry boots though, please.

3) United Bamboo: The prints and styling! There was a bit of a school girl feel which appeals to me as, well, a school girl.

4) Rachel Comey: I love the way she mixes prints in such a beautiful way

5) It's a tie between Anna Sui (left) and Diane Von Furstenburg (right): both for their use of colour, DvF for layering & general feelgoodness (pompom hats!) and Sui for that 70s vibe I love so much.

dunst&rodarte

I don't know what it is that makes me like Kirsten Dunst's style so much ... I think it's because it all seems so effortless. It's all very "I'm going to the Rodarte show so why don't I just, uh, I dunno, throw on this Rodarte dress and this coat and bounce..." I guess what I mean is, she can take this somewhat fantastical dress and wear it with such effortless flair, no excessive accessorizing or styling, so that it looks casual, somehow simple and unfussy - in a good way. I don't know if that clarified it any further, but there you go...

Love Lula/Lula Love

eep!

I ever so innocently went to Borders today to be productive and study but while making my way upstairs to buckle down with a latte and some serious work, I took a cursory glance at the magazine section and staring me smack dab in the face were the brand new Lula and the first issue of Love. I was surprised because a) I though Love came out tomorrow and b) I didn't know when Lula was coming out. I scooped up the two and they now lay on my coffee table waiting to be read. I know! I haven't cracked them open yet except for the quick flip through. I like to take my time with a special few magazines (I didn't finish Lula 7 till a couple of weeks ago) because I find them too precious to finish in a hurry. Impractical, but true. But with these two beauties just lying there, I may be tempted to break the habit...

lewis lookvideo

LEWIS Fall 2009 Collection from LEWIS on Vimeo.

I like Lewis. It's got that vintage, sweet & simple look that I so crave from other brands such as Lover, A.P.C., and Lyell. I find this video of the fall collection equally sweet. All very wearable pieces that I could probably find at a thrift store...and that's a good thing.

Though to be honest, I haven't been really interested in seeing the fall collections since we are still in the depths of winter, and I don't think Spring/Summer could come any faster. Why are we talking about fall again? Boo.

tie me up or let me loose

This shirt was on sale for like $0 and had to be mine. It's a part of Oak Nyc's bondage collaboration series....I don't know what I like about it, the bondage element or the fact that she's screaming, but it's like all my frustrations can be expressed in a shirt. Plus, I'm not gonna lie, I feel kinda bad ass wearing it... :)

THE TOTEBY

GAH! As if I need another tote, and as if the selby isn't the coolest thing out there already...now this limited edition (only 100 guys) crest tote bag is for sale in his shop. Another thing that this damn ban has prevented/saved me from spending precious limited dollars on.

makes me want to jump, jump

So, this may be hypocritical...writing about something on eBay, right after writing about how much I hate eBay (or its wicked power), but a link led to a link and...you know how it goes. ANYWAY, if I were not boycotting eBay at the moment and if I weren't on a self-imposed shopping ban, I would be quite tempted to bid on this:

Sequined deco blouses from the 80s aren't really my bag, but the way that the seller (persephone vintage, who also has an amazing etsy) has presented it, kind of as a cardigan, makes it twenty times more amazing. Quantifiably.

Once, and if, I ever start shopping again, I think I'll keep my eyes pealed out for bedazzled pieces that I used to dismiss. And so, the search for the ridiculously extravagant cardigan begins.

edit/ps:

she also has a ridiculously cute sailor-esque dress, that if I were smaller chested, I would definitely be breaking all the rules for!

Dear eBay, how I loathe you,

*beware: a long rant to ensue*

I have a love/hate relationship with eBay. Sometimes you will look something up and find it being sold for 1p with no one bidding, and voila 5 days later its yours and it is everything you wanted it to be. Then there are other times, when you find something, that you kind of hoped would be there, but never actually expected it would be, like this A.P.C. dress:

I've had a thing for this A.P.C. dress since I saw it on Kirsten Dunst last summer. I lusted for it, but it was already sold out and I figured it was just one of those things that I would want but never have. I don't know what it is, to be honest, it is not particularly special...but want it I did. So periodically, I search for A.P.C. on eBay -- and last week, there it was, that A.P.C. dress going for a very reasonable price. So I watched it...the evil eBay watch that allows you to visit an item everyday and build up hope that one day, soon, it shall be yours. Only 1 bid -- for a week. "Others have to be watching it," I told myself, "No way it will be that easy." On the day of bidding, yesterday, I had the page open all day so that I wouldn't forget to bid. I like to bid 45 seconds before its over, swoop in and ensure my victory, and that was my plan for 1:20 am yesterday.

But then, at 10:30 pm, I refreshed the page to, ya know, check on the bidding when, all of a sudden, the price had jumped from reasonable to $162.50! In one second, I had lost it. Before I had even begun! $160 was definitely past my budget for a last season dress that essentially is a chambray sack with a little sailor detailing. I went to bed heartbroken, all my daydreams of the past week-- wearing it on a sunny summer day -- were dashed.

I awoke this morning and went to the page that I had despondently left open last night. I refreshed it one last time to see the final bid. It went for $372.76. 372.76 EFFING DOLLARS!!!

And this is why I hate eBay. It makes people crazy. The dress originally was 110 euros which is something like $140. Now, a year later, some crazy (or determined) person paid almost 3 times the price. There is a weird adrenaline rush that happens when you bid, and though you told yourself, no I will only bid $100, somehow, it's a competition and you can't let anyone else win and so you bid ridiculously high, hoping no one will suspect you are bluffing. But they do, and you pay $400 for a chambray sack that your mother could've made.

In fact, an epiphany! I bet my mother can make it (I've put her sewing skills to the test with A.P.C.-copying before). So I come out of this awful eBay experience with a defeated ego, dashed hope, no dress BUT the vindicated knowledge that I did not overpay for something just because eBay told me to. Plus my mom will make it better anyway. hmph!

Phew. The End.

99 Luftballons

You and I in a little toy shop
Buy a bag of balloons with the money we've got.
Set them free at the break of dawn
'Til one by one, they were gone.
Back at base, bugs in the software
Flash the message, Something's out there.
Floating in the summer sky.
99 red balloons go by.How amazing is this Built by Wendy dress!? I don't think it would be possible not to sing the song everytime you wore this. Which is probably what Wendy had in mind...

You down with OTT?

I found this vintage slip on eBay a while back when I was on a hunt for those '50s dressing gowns, a consequence of watching L.A. Confidential. This is nothing of the kind, but it had the perfect amount of sheerness so as not to offend propriety yet still seem delicate. Going out in something so light meant the need for some heavy-duty outerwear, enter this faux-fur delight from topshop. I topped it with my cloche, and felt a little bit like one of those eccentric old ladies you see on Advanced Style. A little over-the-top, but appropriately so.
